Fluidra Firsts: The Breakthrough Behind Jandy Infinite WaterColors™

Infinite Watercolors

Fluidra Firsts is a content series exploring how we've shaped today's pool experience through a history of innovation. These aren't just stories about the past—they're the foundation that fuels how we continue pushing what's possible.

For decades, pool lighting remained essentially unchanged. Even as lighting technology evolved in architecture, hospitality, and landscape design, most residential pools remained limited to white light or a small set of basic colors. Homeowners could transform nearly every part of their outdoor living spaces, but their pools, often the visual centerpiece of the backyard, lagged behind.

That gap between what was possible and what the industry was delivering set the stage for one of Fluidra's most significant lighting innovations: Jandy Infinite WaterColors.

The Problem: A Technicolor World with Monochrome Pools

Before Infinite WaterColors, pool owners who wanted to create an exciting atmosphere often found the available lighting solutions frustratingly narrow. Color LED systems typically offered a handful of fixed colors or pre-set shows. Fine-tuning a color was nearly impossible, and cycling through options required patience.

It was a mismatch between consumer expectations and product capability. Homeowners had grown accustomed to smart home ecosystems, customizable landscapes, and intuitive app-based controls. Yet pool lighting remained a "set it and forget it" system that didn't reflect how people wanted to use their outdoor spaces.

That was until we, at Fluidra, identified this gap and got to working on a solution. With Jandy's background in automation and the rapidly expanding AquaLink ecosystem®, we saw an opportunity to bring modern, intelligent lighting to the water environment.

A New Standard: Endless Color Control

That vision led to the development of Infinite WaterColors, a revolutionary lighting system offering unlimited color selection. Instead of cycling through fixed presets, users can choose any shade from a rich color palette through the iAquaLink® app. In other words, it brings pool lighting into the same customizable world as smart home bulbs and architectural lighting.

This represented a shift in how pool lighting could function. Infinite WaterColors turned the water into a programmable canvas, capable of enhancing nighttime ambiance, shaping mood, and even integrating with broader backyard lighting themes.

Smart Integration as a Baseline Expectation

As smart homes evolved, pool owners wanted the same convenience and voice control they used daily indoors. Infinite WaterColors delivered this by integrating seamlessly with the AquaLink RS automation system (revision Y or later), the Infinite WaterColors LED Light Controller, and popular smart-home assistants. This wasn't simply convenience, but an evolution of user expectation. Smart lighting was becoming the norm, and pool lighting was no exception.

Engineering Behind the Breakthrough

Infinite WaterColors also pushed the technical side of pool lighting forward. Key advances included:

  • Advanced LED technology offering significantly higher efficiency than incandescent fixtures, up to 87% more efficient*
  • Color palette generator that allows precision tuning without cycling
  • Zoning capabilities that let homeowners divide the pool into four sections, each with its own color
  • Expanded compatibility with laminar jets and bubblers for fully integrated lightand-water effects
  • Intuitive dimming controls for fine adjustment of brightness and ambiance

These weren't incremental improvements; they established a new benchmark for what pool lighting systems could deliver.

Installation Meets Innovation

Infinite WaterColors also changed expectations for builders and technicians. Nicheless versions simplified installation and eliminated the need for additional housing rewiring or a transformer. Versatility made them suitable for new construction as well as remodels, particularly important at a time when homeowners increasingly invest in upgrading older pool systems.

The Future of Pool Lighting Automation Is Bright

Infinite WaterColors is more than a vibrant lighting upgrade. This Fluidra First marked a meaningful step forward in how backyard environments are designed and experienced. It merged smart technology, artistic flexibility, and energy efficiency into one platform, addressing long-standing limitations in the industry.

As an industry leader, we see Infinite WaterColors not as a finish line, but as a foundation. The opportunity ahead is even greater — deeper integration with the smart home ecosystem, streamlined experiences for the servicers and builders who bring these systems to life, and new ways to make the backyard truly intelligent that you haven't seen anywhere else. This is a space that is still evolving, and we are excited about what's coming. Stay tuned for some exciting advancements in 2026.
